According to Wired, two scientists now have the ability to chase down a mystery that one of them, now retired, discovered as a graduate student in the 1960's. An anomaly he discovered then gnawed at him, so he recently acquired an Arctic-customized hovercraft with a range of 500 miles, solar panels and room for a week of supplies. The hovercraft will allow them to reach places they wouldn't be able to with an icebreaker alone. They hope to find out whether a large area of disturbed seafloor under the Arctic Ocean is evidence of an ancient asteroid impact. Read much more here.
