Debate over Doogan-Mudflats dust-up continues

The Doogan/Mudflats/anonymous blogging debate just won't end. Krestia DeGeorge, editor of the Anchorage Press, is the latest writer to take a stab at this dust-up still sweeping Alaskan blogs. His well-thought out column in this week's Press explores blogging, death threats to journalists, and the overall debate of whether somebody should sign their name to their blog.

Just as interesting are the comments his column has prompted. A long post by an anonymous writer (broken up into six parts) apparently sheds new light on the blogger behind Mudflats. Here's what the writer alleges:

"According to APOC filings, Mudflats' husband, Ron Devon, is listed as the campaign treasurer of (political action committee) Alaskans For Truth ... Alaskans For Truth has had an anonymous propaganda machine/donating arm in the form of Ron Devon's wife, Mudflats ... So much for transparency. Ironically, Rep. Mike Doogan, who outed Mudflats last week, got crosswise with the blogger over Alaskans For Truth. Here's a link to the Doogan/Mudflats clash that erupted in December and prompted Doogan to look at who was behind Mudflats.

Anybody who didn't know that Mudflats is involved in running Alaskans for Truth hasn't been paying attention. It's not a secret.

This dustup is exciting, but really beside the point. Rome is burning and all of Alaska appears to hung up on this silliness. Isn't the Alaska State Legislature still winding up? What about Palin and the Juneau Democrats, they are at loggerheads in filling the vacant Senate seat, doesn't that merit some serious consideration? Hundreds of millions of dollars are about to be spent on hydroelectric power projects, but no one is paying attention.

According to APOC filings, Mudflats' husband, Ron Devon, is listed as the campaign treasurer of Alaskans For Truth. Mudflats blogged on this fact last fall, though she conveniently failed to mention her connection to her husband. But that didn't stop her from trying to get people to donate to this anti-Palin PAC.

Here is an exchange between Mudflats and one of her readers on Nov. 24, when Mudflats was asked in the comments section of her blog about who was behind Alaskans For Truth:

READER ASKS: i just checked over at the aft blog. nowhere did i see a name attatched to the site. and although i donated, i wonder if someone is at some time going to ask just who is fronting this movement. there’s going to have to be a point person to answer questions when this thing goes viral. what do you think, akm?

MUDFLATS RESPONDS: The Chair is Camille Conte, and the Treasurer is Ron Devon, both of whom were involved in organizing the rally this fall. This is all public information with APOC. I suspect that either one of them, or another spokesperson will be fielding questions. AKM

Holy cow! So Mudflats' husband also helped organize "the biggest political rally in Alaska history," as the progressives like to say, AND helped create a political action committee.

Alaskans For Truth has had an anonymous propaganda machine/donating arm in the form of Ron Devon's wife, Mudflats, who herself has been collecting donations and selling advertising on her blog for months now. God only knows where that money has been going. Do I smell an APOC violation?

So much for transparency.

What a waste of time. Doogan should apologize and Mudflaps should crawl back into her hole or go away. There is no such thing as an alaskan for truth. Sorry, maybe there are a couple people looking for it.
