When justice fails us

| Apr 1, 2009

Wev Shea, an Anchorage attorney and Alaska Dispatch contributor, has been one of the only critics over how the Feds pursued their prosecution of Sen. Ted Stevens.

His columns raised serious concerns about the Justice Department's ethics and sense of fair play. Regardless of what you think of Stevens -- including whether you believe he is still guilty -- the record now shows federal prosecutors cut corners going after the nation's longest-serving senator. And we should all be concerned about that.

Read Shea's columns:

The corrupt, unethical prosecution of Stevens

The corrupt, unethical prosecution of Ted Stevens, Part II

The corrupt, unethical prosecution of Senator Stevens, Part III

The corrupt, unethical prosecution of Ted Stevens, Part IV

Misconduct in Stevens' prosecution not norm for Justice Department

As guilty as Stevens is, the inept and unethical prosecutors should be censured and fired from their positions. O J Simpson would have been found guilty of murder except for a prosecution witness embellishing the evidence.

Dan and Marty:

Thank you for your comments.

Right and wrong is really pretty simple; so is seeking justice with ethics.

Alaskans are wonderful individuals; and we trust DOJ and its FBI.

The corruption was obvious; the national and local media let us down.

The problem was the liberal media and bloggers had made up their mind and only a few out there like Wev were taking an objective look. What I don't understand is why the liberals aren't celebrating that justice has now been done. Thanks Wev and Alaska Dispatch for keeping this issue alive all the way to the end when nobody else was watching.

Thank you Wev. It's a shame few others were willing to stand up. What does that say about Alaskans?
